5 Elements Of An Architectural Bathroom

While some claim the kitchen is the most important room in the home, we would argue that the bathroom is equally as important. After all, the bathroom is one of the most used rooms in your home – with members of your household likely spending time in this space multiple times each day.

The bathroom is also a safe space where you can relax at the end of a stressful day, while getting some much-needed privacy or “me time”. That means you need to make sure your bathroom is perfectly designed to suit your needs.

Whether you’re renovating an existing bathroom or building a new one, you should carefully consider the architectural features that you’re going to include in your design. To inspire your upcoming build, we’ve put together a list of five elements of an architectural bathroom.

1. Statement Lighting

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt from building custom homes across Melbourne, it’s that you can’t underestimate the impact of great lighting.

Skimp on lighting and the results speak for themselves, but if you take the time to develop a well-considered lighting plan early, you’ll be able to create a space that looks and feels architectural.

From hanging pendant lights and wall lights to light up mirrors and LED cabinetry lights, the lighting options available to include in your bathroom are endless.

2. Dark Tiles

Most people think that using black, grey or any darker coloured tile will make a space appear lifeless. But using a dark tile that has shine or dimension will reflect light and add visual interest to a room, brightening the space just as much as lighter coloured tiles would.

Black tiles are also very easy to maintain, while giving your bathroom a modern appearance and an opportunity for brighter materials to shine.

3. Dual basins

Bathroom vanities with a dual basin have become increasingly popular in recent years. They offer various advantages that can make a big difference to your everyday life.

If two or more people live in your home, the bathroom probably becomes quite busy in the morning. You may need to wait before you can use the basin or use it in a hurry to allow for the next person to use it. Dual basins help you finish morning tasks on time while avoiding stress and arguments.

4. Bold tapware

The design of your home should be a reflection of your personal sense of style and adding coloured tapware to your bathroom is an easy way to achieve this.

Despite being small in size, coloured tapware can pack a really powerful design punch. It’s an affordable way to bring a high-end feel to even the most basic of bathrooms.

Matte black tapware in particular has become a must-have, but other colours like gunmetal, brushed gold, rose gold and brushed nickel are being seen more and more too.

5. Skylights

Installing a skylight into your bathroom may just be one of the best decisions you ever make. Most bathrooms, especially those in older homes, tend to be relegated to the shady side of the house or in the centre of the structure. The result is a dark, often dreary space.

Not only are skylights a great way to brighten up the room and save on electricity, but they also lead to improved ventilation, less condensation and reduced mould growth.
